Home School Instruction

      If you wish to Home School and have just moved into the Auburn District:

• Download our ‘searchable’ Home School Handbook  where you will find the New York State regulations along with examples of the grade level documents required.
• You can also access the New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Frequently Asked Questions HERE
• The parent/guardian is required to send their Notice of Intention to the Superintendent at the mailing address noted at the bottom of this page.  
• Provide your previous school records or contact information for that school.
• Provide Proof of Residence (rent/lease agreement, Utility Bill, or pay stub).
• You will then get our letter acknowledging receipt of your document(s).  If any further documentation is necessary, the letter will reference that further documentation is required.
• Complete the appropriate grade level Individualized Home Instruction Plan (IHIP) with the IHIP Cover Sheet - see links on the left side of this page.  
• These documents must be submitted in a timely fashion.  See Home School Timeline below.
   

      If you wish to Home School AND already have children attending school in the Auburn District:

• Download our ‘searchable’ Home School Handbook.  You will find the New York State Regulations along with examples of the grade level documents required.
• You can also access the New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Frequently Asked Questions HERE
• The parent/guardian is required to send their Notice of Intention* to the Superintendent at the mailing address noted at the bottom of this page.  
• You will then get our letter acknowledging receipt of your document(s).  If any further documentation is necessary, the letter will reference that further documentation is required.
• Complete the appropriate grade level Individualized Home Instruction Plan (IHIP) with the IHIP Cover Sheet - see links on the left side of this page. 
• These documents must be submitted in a timely fashion.  See Home School Timeline below. 

        *IMPORTANT:  If the child you wish to home school is already attending school in the Auburn district, your child must remain in school until your IHIP has been approved.

• A Notice of Intention for Home Instruction must be submitted each school year, DUE DATE July 1st.   
• If you are new to the Auburn District, a Notice of Intention for Home Instruction can be submitted at the time you move into the District.
• An IHIP Cover Sheet along with the IHIP, DUE August 15th. Please see grade level requirements in the Home School Handbook.
• If you are new to the Auburn District, the IHIP Cover Sheet and the IHIP are DUE to the District within 4 weeks of receiving our acknowledgement letter.
• Quarterly Reports are to be submitted according to the dates you indicated in the IHIP.
• Your plan for your child’s year-end assessment must be indicated on your 3rd Quarterly Report.
• The grade level appropriate year-end assessment must be submitted to the District.  DUE June 30th.
