Process of Science Objectives

-Define science.
-List the steps in the scientific method and be able to apply it toward problem solving.
-Identify the controls and variables present in an experiment.
-Set up and use a data table.
-Draw a complete graph, including:  Title, independent variable, dependent variable,  correctly numbered axes, and correctly plotted data.
-Identify all of the major parts of  a compound light microscope and state their function.
-Calculate the magnifying power of a compound light microscope.
-Explain resolution.
-Perform conversions involving micrometers.
-List the advantages and disadvantages of using each of the following microscopes:  Phase contrast, dissecting, and electron microscopes.
-Describe the technique of chromatography and state when it is useful.
-Define electrophoresis.
-Describe a centrifuge and state its purpose.
-Define and give examples of 2 stains that are commonly used in biology.
-Define and give examples of indicators.
