Life: Cells to Organisms Objectives

-Describe each of the following life functions:  Nutrition (including ingestion, digestion and egestion), transport, cellular respiration, excretion, synthesis, regulation, growth and reproduction.
-Define metabolism.
-Define homeostasis.
-Describe the cell theory and discuss the problems concerning the cell theory.
-Identify animal cell organelles on a diagram and describe each of their functions (cell membrane, cytoplasm, nucleus, nuclear membrane, chromosomes, nucleolus, ribosomes, vacuole, mitochondria, lysosome).
-Identify plant cell organelles on a diagram and describe each of their functions and add the 2 organelles not found in animal cells (cell wall and choroplasts).
-Describe the Fluid Mosaic Model of cell membrane structure.
-Describe the classification system, including the 4 groupings we will use in this course:
Kingdom, phylum, genus, and species.
-Explain scientific names.
-List the 5 kingdoms of organisms, the characteristics of each of the major groups within each kingdom, and examples of organisms found in each group.
