Regulation & Locomotion Objectives

-Name the 2 systems in the human body that achieve regulation and explain their similarities and differences.
-Describe the 3 types of neurons (sensory, motor, and inter-neurons) in terms of structure and function.
-Define and identify on a diagram the following structures:  dendrite, cyton, axon, terminal branches, receptors and effectors.
-Define central nervous system.
-Locate the 3 major subdivisions (cerebrum, cerebellum, and medulla) of the human brain on a diagram and state their functions.
-Describe the function of the spinal cord.
-Using a diagram, explain the pathway of a reflex.
-Distinguish between involuntary and voluntary behavior.  Give examples of each type of behavior.
-Identify the main characteristics of the following malfunctions and describe how they disrupt homeostasis:  Cerebral palsy, meningitis, stroke, and polio.
-List the functions of bones and describe the structure of bone.
-List the functions of cartilage, and the location of cartilage in embryos versus adults.
-Describe the 3 types of muscles in terms of location, appearance (smooth or striated) and function (voluntary or involuntary).
-Describe tendons and ligaments.
-Describe the following malfunctions:  Arthritis and tendonitis.
