Human Respiration & Excretion Objectives

-Label a diagram of the human respiratory system.
-Explain the structure and function of the following components of the human respiratory system:  Nasal passages, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi, bronchial tubes, bronchioles, and alveoli.
-Explain the physical actions that produce breathing.
-Explain the mechanism for controlling breathing including the name of the structure and the gas monitored.
-Explain gas exchange between the alveoli and capillaries and between capillaries and body cells.
-Explain how oxygen is transported in the blood.
-Describe the following respiratory malfunctions:  Bronchitis, asthma, emphysema, pneumonia, and lung cancer.
-Explain how smoking affects the:
       A. Respiratory System.
       B. Excretion.
-Define excretion as a life function.
-List the 4 major organs of excretion (lungs, liver, skin, and kidneys) and state waste products produced.
-Explain how the skin regulates body temperature.
-State two functions of the kidneys.
-Label the following structures of the urinary system and state their function:  Kidneys, ureters, urinary bladder, and urethra.
-Identify the functional unit of the kidneys (nephron), label the  parts and describe their function.
-List components of urine.
-Describe the malfunctions:  Gout and kidney disease.
-Label a cross section of skin and describe the function of each part.
