Evolution I Objectives

-Define evolution; diagram the three components that result in evolution of species
-List the 6 types of evidence for evolution
-State which of the above 6 gives the strongest evidence for evolution
-State which of the above 6 were not available to Darwin
-Define strata and describe the type of fossils (relative age and complexity) found in upper
-Strata versus lower strata
-State two conclusions scientists have come up with concerning fossils found in strata
-Define the following areas of science; describe how each provides evidence for evolution, and give an example of each:
     -Comparative cytology
     -Comparative anatomy
     -Comparative embryology
     -Comparative biochemistry
-Define homologous structures, and give an example
-Define vestigial structures, and give 3 examples in the human body
-Explain what adaptations are; can they be inherited or acquired?
-Explain Lamark’s theory of evolution
-Discuss Lamark’s explanation of the evolution of the giraffe’s long neck
-Explain how Weisman disproved Lamark’s theory
-Thoroughly explain Darwin’s Theory of Evolution
