Auburn Varsity Girls Soccer team to host suicide prevention awareness fundraiser September 18

September is Suicide Prevention Month, and the Auburn Varsity Girls Soccer team will be hosting a suicide prevention awareness fundraiser at their game against Mynderse Academy at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 18 at Holland Stadium.

The team asked local businesses to support two organizations, Hope for Bereaved, Inc. and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. They also sold bracelets to classmates and community members to raise awareness and contribute donations to the organizations with the proceeds from the bracelet sales.

The Greater Central New York Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention will have a booth at the game to raise awareness and allow community members to stop by and pick up information.

“The team chose this cause because of the mental health issues students are facing throughout the pandemic,” said Kristen Bartolotta, Auburn Varsity Girls Soccer coach. “They did a really great job promoting the cause, raising awareness, and seeking support for these organizations.”

Everyone who attends the game is encouraged to wear suicide prevention awareness colors, purple and turquoise.
