TWO AUBURN HIGH SENIORS RECEIVE 2025 GOLDMAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS

Mitchell Homick and Mary Alice Pineau, seniors at Auburn High School, have been named the 2025 recipients of the Ruth and Charles B. Goldman Memorial Scholarship. Each will receive $1,000 toward their first year of college studies.

Mitchell is the son of Taryn and Martin Homick. He plans to matriculate this fall at Yale University. Mary Alice is the daughter of Mary Claire and Mark Pineau. She will attend Wesleyan University.

The scholarship, named in memory of two lifelong Auburnians, is designated annually for 1-2 graduating seniors at AHS who have demonstrated a significant interest in the public affairs of the community, the nation and/or the world. This is the 18th year of the award.

Mitchell was honored for his role in relaunching the dormant newspaper club at Auburn HS and overseeing coverage of stories relevant for a student audience. He also was recognized for his efforts to raise media literacy among young students locally through his Eagle Scout project. He finished as the valedictorian of his graduating class.

Mary Alice was recognized for her efforts to raise funds and awareness in support of needy children to improve their attendance at Genesee Elementary School during cold weather months. She also took on a leadership role of First Amendment First Vote, a non-school organization committed to increasing involvement of young girls in public affairs. She served in student government officer positions.

The Goldman scholarship, which is awarded annually, is funded by family members and friends of Ruth and Charles Goldman. The scholarship has been presented at AHS since 2007.
